Updated December 12th, 2021 by Ritwik Mitra: Disco Elysium is one of the most narratively rich and exciting games released in quite some time. The sheer scope of the game's world, along with the excellent story that drove its events, made for an unforgettable experience that fans adored when the original game was launched. If that wasn't great enough as is, ZA/UM also decided to release an enhanced version of the game called Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, which changed several things and added a surprising amount of new content to make things even more engaging. Here are all the changes brought over by The Final Cut and how impactful they really are.

The Significance Of The Final Cut

There's no denying that Disco Elysium was one of the greatest role-playing titles of the modern generation when it was launched. However, the game still had some major barriers to entry. The isometric style of gameplay was the first thing that turned fans off, coupled with the walls of text they had to get through with little to no voiced dialogue. As a result, a lot of people simply couldn't get into this masterpiece or didn't even want to go through the effort.

This is why The Final Cut is so important to turn Disco Elysium into a legendary title. It addressed all the complaints that people had about the game, and expanded upon its world in a way that felt natural and engaging. With the sheer host of changes brought about by The Final Cut, it goes without saying that Disco Elysium is on track to become one of the best story-driven video games of all time.

7 Fast Travel

While Disco Elysium doesn't really have the biggest world around, there's no denying that roaming around can prove to be quite challenging at times. After all, the main character isn't exactly the fastest person around, and the surroundings — while certainly engaging in their own right — do get a bit monotonous once players start witnessing the same landscapes over and over again.

Thankfully, The Final Cut took care of this issue with the simplest solution — fast travel! With this change, players can now roam around the world of Disco Elysium without having to worry about any annoying backtracking.

6 Voice Acting For Every Character

The most significant addition to Disco Elysium - The Final Cut is the full voice acting added for each and every character. This change brings the narrative and overall gameplay to a whole new level. It makes the world of Disco Elysium feel much more alive, and puts the strongest aspect of the game – the writing – front and center.

This will be a huge difference for those who are already big fans of the game. For newcomers, the gameplay will hit twice as hard as before, so they'll surely be hooked quickly.

5 Plenty Of New Quests

An entirely new set of quests have also been added to the game, under the name of "Political Vision". Initially, the political background in the world of Disco Elysium, as well as the political alignment of the character, received a lot of praise. Thus, it's no surprise that developers chose to highlight this aspect of the game by creating a list of quests dedicated to strengthen this aspect.

These quests definitely make the story feel more complex, and make the setting of the game much more realistic. While they don't add to the main storyline, they do help players create a satisfying conclusion in this aspect of the gameplay alongside the main quests.

4 New Characters And Locations

With the new quests come new opportunities. Players will be able to interact with much more side characters, either widening the Political Vision side of the story or the background of any quest further. This makes the game much more fun and engaging while giving the story a deeper background to explore.

And if that wasn't enough, creators have added whole new areas and monuments to explore, making the world more complex and well thought out. Players will have a blast looking for new easter eggs and unravelling the story behind this universe.

3 Hardcore Mode

Players will also find a Hardcore Mode in the game, which serves to emphasize the theme of failure. This might feel like a weird addition, but it make sense in the game's world. Because there's almost no combat in this game, players don't know what to expect from the Hardcore Mode. What developers wanted to emphasize with this update is the finality of each choice a player makes. Disco Elysium seems to want the players to fail, making the gameplay even more realistic.

From drugs to political views, each decision the player makes can end in tragedy. Hardcore Mode only makes this aspect stronger. It doesn't mean the game will be much harder, as it wasn't really hard to start with. With this update, players have to be much more careful about their decisions and actually think of the character as if it were themselves They're going to fail more, going to be poorer, going to learn to love drugs. They're going to treasure what they have and wise up faster.

2 Full Controller Support

A few other great additions in The Final Cut are less about the plot and more about the handling and overall feel of the game. These include full controller support and the ability to customize controls.

This update gives a better flow to the game, and handling becomes much easier using controller support. Everything can be accessed by the controller, and if players don't like the manual settings, they can customize each control to make it fit their desires perfectly.

1 4K Resolution

The resolution of the game has also seen improvement with the new update. Players can find the best on PlayStation 5, thanks to their new features. However, even those not playing on PS5 can still see the huge difference in resolution, with the beautiful watercolor art style jumping out of the screen even more.

For those wanting to start Disco Elysium for the first time, this is the perfect moment to jump in. With all these new additions, and with the 4K resolution, it will be a more gripping experience than ever for new and old players alike.
